This is my son and also one of the best friends I've ever had. He's always treated me with loyalty and respect, and I love spending time with him. Right now, between JMU and his job at Walmart, I don't see him nearly enough, but David if you are reading this, know you have been prayed for. I love you. Mom

Bedtime- and a cute story

When Kathryn goes to sleep, she hugs this soft sweet little bear or one nearly like it up close to her (it's sooo cute). I could NEVER get Nicholas to attach to anything...except these little blue bibs that attached to his pacifiers and kept him from throwing them. When he was 9 months old, and still had not once taken a real nap, or slept through the night, I finally came upon those bibs. They were my ticket to sleep and sanity, as he would eventually stop crying and was unable to throw his passy, so would put it back in his mouth and go back to sleep. They snapped on in the back, and had an elephant on the front, (some of you will remember them well) and the elephant's trunk went thru the passy and kept it from falling off. Well, he got used to the tags on the bibs, and so became attached to the passy AND the bib with the tag, as he would put his finger through the tag and rub the tag between his fingers. I had a stash of the bibs, which I found only at Toys R Us, but eventually they no longer carried them. I had to wash the bibs daily, because Nicholas would slobber as he sucked his passy, and after about 24 hours or so, they would get pretty nasty. Well, my stash, dwindled down, eventually to maybe about 3 or so, as the bibs wore out, broke, and some of the tags tore off. He didn't want to wear one if it had a broken tag....then it was defective. And other similar bibs I found weren't good enough, because they didn't have looped tags! I actually remember putting two bibs on at once. One that still would hold the passy, but had no "tag to rub" and another that was broken and wouldn't hold the passy, but still had a tag. I began trying to get him started on a "lovie" knowing the bib days were drawing to an end, bought him some small blankies with tags, etc., but nothing else ever was good enough. Eventually, at the age of 3 or so, he declared he was going to throw away his bibs and passy. The first night, I remember he cried and said, "but I don't want to suck my finger" and I told him he didn't have to suck anything. And I tried giving him all kinds of things with tags, but it was a package deal. No passy, no tags. And he never became attached to any other stuffed animal to sleep with. (except, he would occasionally, as he got a bit older, and still does now and then, search under my pillow, grab MY nightgown, and hold it, cuddle it and fall asleep with it) Once, while I was in MD, visiting my father in the hospital this summer, he was at my friend Barb's house, and he took my nightgown, which I had been wearing all week, and had clutched it to himself. Then, (oh how embarrassing) had everyone smell my nightgown because it smelled so good! (He told them it smelled like cherry sno cones-{because he often saw me eating my sugar free crushed ice at night before bed.} So, my son, hugs my nightgown, but my granddaughter, she hugs her cute little lovey, teddy bear.

Timeless

When I started this blog, I decided it was going to be a happy, positive place, where I could share good things, pictures, etc. But, I must say here, after over 3 years of watching my husbands continued and progressive suffering with bone pain and as of yet no diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment, and then this summer, my father, suffer from a brain hemorrhage after being put on coumadin, and then 3 months of valiant suffering, ups and downs, but NEVER a complaint, which was such a message from God right there, and then his death on September 21st, I can hold this sweet little baby, and know somehow, life will go on, God is still with me, and there is beauty to behold, now and in the future.

Cristen and Johnny

Our sweet daughter Cristen and son-in-law Johnny. (Can you believe Cristen is 26 years old already?) We are so blessed to have Cristen and Johnny and now little Kathryn in our family.

My pregnant daughter and I

I know this picture is now "old" but now that I've finally got my pictures into my computer, and finally am able to start "blogging" I just can't resist sticking in some old ones here and there. So, sorry Cristen if you don't like this picture. But, I guess I am just a bit goofy with this blogging thing, and I will soon settle into only blogging "current" pictures and events. I have so many good pictures of Kathryn I can put on here, outside of the tummy, that will be coming soon. Sorry for all the "correct" bloggers out there for my backwards way of doing this! I always did do things my "own" way!

SOCCER!

I asked Nicholas what was some of his favorite things about school. His answer was PE, lunch and recess! He also likes "activity" time. Is anyone surprised? And he said his other favorite thing is SOCCER! Here are a few snapshots I took, not the greatest but all I took so far, of Nick playing a game of soccer. The K thru 2nd graders just split up into 4 equal team; the blue, red, yellow and Nick's team, which is green. The first and last pic Nick had kicked the ball. The middle pic Nick was taking his job of goalie very seriously ;-)

Doggie Kisses

I couldn't resist posting this picture from the past. Nicholas was about a year and a half old and I was going to snap a picture of him playing with our dog Holly. Just as I was taking the picture, Holly gave him a huge slurp and the camera caught it just before. Slurp!

Hooray!

I am so excited. David, my wonderful son, has helped me load a bunch of old and new pictures into my computer, many that had been on the old computer that bit the dust last year and were on a disk, waiting for so long to be put on this computer. So, now, blogging will be much more fun. I promise to be more faithful, and to take more pictures and update more regularly. (and I will probably put a few fun old ones on here as well now and then) So, all of you who have given up on checking my blog, please start looking at it again. There is more to come!

First Day of School

Brotherly/Sisterly love on Nick's first day of Kindergarten.

Back to School!

Well, two more milestones for our family. The "babies" if you compare them to the next older two kids, Cristen-26, and David-22, have both started something new. Ali started her first year in middleschool, at Blue Ridge Christian School, and Nicholas started Kindergarten! They both are loving it, and we are so happy to have them at BRCS. They are being loved and fed spiritual truths every day. The school is a breath of fresh air and a family and we wholeheartedly entrust our children to them. Nicholas is having a blast at school and is adjusting very well. He is enjoying soccer after school now and just loves that as well. Each morning he is happy to go, and full of enthusiasm. I must give credit for these pictures. My dear sweetheart of a daughter, Cristen, was taking care of Nicholas and Ali for close to two weeks, while we were at the Mayo clinic trying to get help for Greg. Sadly, we were not back in time for Nick's first day of Kindergarten, but Cristen knew just what to do....follow him to school with the camera. She took many pictures, and emailed them to me that evening. She is a wonderful daughter, big sister, and now Mommy to her 9 month old daughter.

Ali's first blue ribbon!

This was a Great Beginnings show at my sister's farm, Kemper Knoll Farm. Thanks to Aunt Darlene for the fun time Ali had winning her blue ribbon, as well as a few others and also a reserve champion! What a great and safe place for children to learn to ride horses. Also a wonderful view for the parents. (Ali is very lucky to have an Aunt who is a horseback riding instructor!) She loves to ride, and loves the horses. What a beautiful day we had for the show!

Two Horsed Covered Wagon ride

Christmas Caroling

This was Christmas time and we went on a two horse covered wagon ride! We sang songs, acted silly, and got barked at by some dogs. Nicholas enjoyed his Santa hat, and the goode 'ol Christmas spirit...(even Aunt Linda's singing wasn't too bad...really). Above are a couple other shots of the horse pulled wagon.
This is our first attempt at blogging. We hope our family and friends will enjoy keeping up with us this way. I think this is the life of the "younger" generation...this blogging thing, but I just love keeping up with my daughter Cristen's blog, and seeing all the cute new pictures of Kathryn she puts on there from time to time, as well as updates from her ministry, excerpts from her new life as a Mom, etc. But, for the first little while, you are going to see things kind of out of order as we load photos into our our computer. We will probably have some old pictures, followed by new, and vice-versa, until we get the swing of things. Anyway, enjoy, and maybe some of my fellow friends between the ages of 30 and 90, give it a try, its fun!

A few more pictures of our first grandbaby!

Our new little grandbaby Kathryn Elizabeth

Here are a few pictures of our sweet little granddaughter. Our oldest daughter Cristen is her Mom, and we are just so proud and happy and thankful to the Lord for Kathryn's safe arrival. She is beautiful, sweet and we are enjoying her. So far, some of my best memories are just spending the entire night, when she was newborn, sleeping with her in my arms, in the recliner/rocker, so her Mommy could get some sleep on a few separate occasions. I look fwd to more fun sleep-overs with Kathryn as she grows older, and the memories we will make together. The pictures I am posting are just a few because I don't have a lot of them on my computer yet...most of them are on disk and not loaded onto my computer. I will soon post with some up to date pictures, but you can go to Cristen and Johnny's blog at www.thesinks.blogspot.com and see some adorable pictures as well.

Niece and cousin Katie's wedding in November

Me and my sweet daughter Ali at my niece Katie's wedding in November. It was a beautiful wedding and we were so happy we could be there to celebrate with them as they united themselves to one another and committed their marriage to Christ. Katie and Tucker we hope you are doing great!

Welcome to our Blog!

Welcome to our blog! This is the first post, and what's a post without a picture? So here is our "Norman Rockwell" picture from this past Christmas. Can you tell who was having the most fun?
